No one thinks Sabalenka will melt down under the pressure?

I don't think Ostapenko can play 6 matches without having one in which people in the third row are ducking for their lives.
She did it once at RG, I know. But on these courts, that is tough.
I am no in the camp that believes Aryna melts under pressure. I think she can deliver.

I don't think Penko will win it all.
I think Keys peaked today.
I saw most of the Vondrousova/Stearns match and I guess the part where she was being troubled by her shoulder and/or neck happened when I dozed off.
There is now a group of players being called "disruptors" in the WTA. Penko, Giorgi, Keys (eh) and PeakPetra.

Zheng Qinwen: Right now I feel just super happy and excited to play in a big stadium and have a really good performance today. Ons is a fantastic player, really tough to beat, has lots of variation in her game. That was a really impressive win for me today.

I also don't see Ostapenko zoning for three more matches. Also, she isn't in top shape. We don't talk about it, but she's clearly not, and she could get tired in a physical daytime match. Then might go for (even) more to end points quickly and lose accuracy.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 7:56 pm I don't think Ostapenko can play 6 matches without having one in which people in the third row are ducking for their lives.

Aryna is more likely to deliver than choke this time. She could just get outplayed, but I doubt it. I think she'll win the title unless Gauff plays out of her mind.
Coco will have a good strategy for Ostapenko. She comes in more than Iga.

Ostapenko vs QZ finals for me! Anything is possible! The class players left are Sabalenka and Vondrousova..V appears to be struggling euth a niggle..I agree, no reason why Sabalenka should not win. She has been quietly impressive...meganfernandez wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 6:09 pmSabalenka def Gauff in the final

It's hard for me to ascertain Sabalenka's form because she hasn't really played anyone good yet.

She rolled over Kasatkina without too much trouble.JTContinental wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 12:21 am It's hard for me to ascertain Sabalenka's form because she hasn't really played anyone good yet.

I like Sabalenka to win it but would not bet a dime on it.
Her destruction of Kasatkina was a certainty before they stepped on the court. That serve vs.that return spelled disaster for K.

Aren't we being selective?
Wimbledon champ Marketa played "nobody" today. She dropped a set.
Rybakina played perennial "ranked in the 40's" Sorana. She lost.
Aryna has played "nobody", and she has handled them with the scores you should beat those players by. Can't ask her for more.

You're right, but that still does not provide an indication of how she will play when she is challenged.
I think she will win, but I'm not confident about it.

Re: '23 US Open Women's Draws and Discussion
I think she will play well. She has talked about an improved calmness on court when she is struggling, and it has shown in her results this year. I think she has the experience now to come through. For me, she is the heavy favorite. But I have always believed in her more than most people. I figured she would get a Slam, probably a few. A lot of people said never, ever, ever, too shaky. Still saying that about her.

Re: '23 US Open Women's Draws and Discussion
She looked slower than normal to me all summer, both on grass and hard courts. I have not seen her much at all here.
Earlier this year I posted she had a shot at winning the grand slam, and people rightly took issue with that, so I'm certainly not a Sabalenka doubter. But her form has not been good enough for me to declare her a heavy favorite.
