Kasatkina losing to Mertens. Not a terrible loss, but Mertens is not a powerhouse on hard courts. Her funky year continues (Kasatkina's).

Intense - yes. But to a degree that you can damage your own rib - sounds like a stretch. Maybe she is taking too much from the book of her idol - Rafa Nadal. Who was - oh, so hurt in his loss to Soderling - that in order to demonstrate how hurt he was - skipped Wimbledon. And then of course he was still hurt when DelPo cleaned his clock in US Open.
Let me see if I get this straight. Rafa lost to Soderling at RG, the tournament he loves the most, and claimed a fake injury, and then, so nobody would doubt the reality of his injury he skipped Wimbledon, where he was the defending champion, so he would not be called on that lie?
I mean, how evil can a person be?
Plus, cracking a rib coughing isn’t that uncommon of an injury

Kasatkina was ill. She fell behind 3-0 (two breaks) quickly before coming back to win the set. But she called for the trainer early in the third set (I think), saying she had vomited twice earlier in the day. She was still competing well late in the match, but I think she was definitely under the weather.

Has no one ever suggested to Katherine Sebov that she should spend some time in the gym? Or is she just one of these body types that never builds bulky muscles? Her arms and legs are so willowy, it's hard to see how she could compete at a higher level. Also, she has a very short takeback on her forehand, which would also limit the power she can get off that.

Laura Siegemund is going to make us watch her play until she's 45, isn't she?

I agree. Yesterday's injury was completely out of nowhere, and if you look at the stroke that caused it, it seemed like nothing.
Then again, Gael's FH has always been a very wristy affair. Who knows how much more millage than the average he has there.

That's about how long it takes her to finish barking after she hits the ball

If you ever play Rebecca Marino, just hit every ball down the middle of the court.

Badosa beats Siegemund, 76(2) 46 62 in 2h51m. #MiamiOoen

Siegemund took an off-court MTO for a left hip injury at 0-3 in the 3rd and became increasingly desperate to shorten points.
