The Spin

None of the eight women are in the top 70 and only two are in the top 100

What are the odds one will win the title?

All British final.

by ashkor87 yep, my faith in Cornet is shaken for sure! she only beats #1 players, I guess, or reigning French Open champrions!

by ponchi101 Alize is the opposite of many players, in that she really has not had a stellar career and yet, she is considered as very good player. 1 QF in her entire career, 5 4R, at Slams. But because she has played tough matches against #1 players (especially Serena), she has an aura.

by Suliso Also let's not forget that Cornet (33) is at the very tail end of her career. That matters too.

She has won 6 titles and been No. 11 in the world. I think she has a decent resume, but yeah, her notoriety is a bit outsized based on her accomplishments, thanks to her personality, playing style, and those big upsets.

We also can't forget the breakdowns - she's mellowed a bit as she's aged, but she's had some legendary on court behaviour.

by ashkor87 just saw YOUTUBE highlights.. the court here seems significantly faster than the one at 'Shertogenbosch.. wonder what W wil be like...clearly, there is a wide variation even in grass courts.. the bounce seemed lower too here at Nottinghem..

by ponchi101 Yet, on grass, we are seeing 12-15 strokes rallies.
15 strokes were what Edberg or Becker needed to win A GAME. Maybe even two.
How the game has changed.
