by dryrunguy Well, for those who care, it's that time of year! The 2025 Eurovision national selections have started, and we have our first two confirmed entries for the 2025 installment of Eurovision. I'll be posting them here as they are selected. As usual, many of these songs will be revamped before the contest in May, so the songs themselves are not a done deal. Many of them will be modified between now and then.
Enjoy!
by dryrunguy Montenegro is returning to Eurovision after not competing since 2022. A song lamenting the pitfalls of the Internet titled "Clickbait" by the band Neonoen was originally selected. But after a snippet of the band performing a different version of the song prior to September 1 surfaced, Neonoen opted to withdraw rather than endure a full investigation.
Officials then announced that the pre-content favorite, DOBRODOŠLI by Nina Zizic would be Montenegro's entry for Eurovision. It's a Balkan ballad with a James Bond twist.
Here are the lyrics translated into English:
The night which is to blame, wakes up
Shamelessly rubs its tired eyes
Will it come or will it sleep
Red dawn comes to see the wounds
[Pre-Chorus]
Where is everyone now? Behind the border
Knitting a wreath of flowers
[Chorus]
Smile, endure everything, it will pass
Endure everything, it will pass, smile
It will pass, smile, endure everything
It will disappear, it will stop, but when will it
I bid you welcome
To the play about love
[Verse 2]
How arе you, are you okay
Where arе now all those pure before God
As if they are mute, they stand speechless
Those who are there in good times and bad
[Pre-Chorus]
Their faces are red, patched with sadness
And who's to blame, woah
[Chorus]
Smile, endure everything, it will pass
Endure everything, it will pass, smile
It will pass, smile, endure everything
It will disappear, it will stop, but when will it
I bid you welcome
To the hotel of my weaknesses
I bid you all welcome
To the play about love
[Bridge]
[Vocalising]
[Outro]
Endure everything, it will pass, smile
It will pass, smile, endure everything
It will disappear, it will stop, but when will it
(It will stop, but when will it)
by dryrunguy Last night, Albania wrapped up its national selection with a mild upset. Shkodra Elektronike won the selection with their song, Zjerm.
Lyrics translated into English:
In this minute, in this moment
with paranoia,
After the rain, the world looks like a rainbow
Around there's no ambulances
No one talks with arrogance
Today, they also told us
that the weather will be good.
I ended up underwater,
my mouth never went dry.
Imagine a minute,
without soldiers,
without orphans,
with no bottles in the ocean,
gasoline smells like lilac,
the freedom of speech
is taught in school.
Create within me a pure heart,
In my night, I send you the light.
Aman miserere*
Aman miserere*
In my heart
In my heart
This minute shall continue
The good people
The nameless people,
Dance valle** in their soul
Jarna ne***, you, my land,
Where I was born I will not forget
Jarna ne***, you, my world,
Continue to shine, shine, shine
Fire
Fall upon our tribal dances,
that echo as loud as the avalanche when it falls upon mountains
Fire
The nameless people and the pure people,
The broken people and they fall,
Like 7 knives that stab your soul.
Fire
Here rest the sea, the sand, and moon.
And the stars we do not see, because our foot steps on them,
As we walk in delirium.
Fire
We're hungry for flames and light,
and we seek you,
in this darkness that is nowhere close to shining
Create within me a pure heart,
In my night, I send you the light.
Aman miserere
Aman miserere
In my heart
In my heart
This minute shall continue
The good people
The nameless people,
Dance valle** in their soul
Jarna ne***, you, my land,
Where I was born I will not forget
Jarna ne***, you, my world,
Continue to shine, shine, shine...
by dryrunguy My apologies. I have fallen a little behind on the 2025 Eurovision national song selections. I'll do my best to get caught up tonight because there are more tomorrow (Saturday) and another on Sunday.
Greece selected Klavdia with her power ballad Asteromata.
by dryrunguy Belgium selected Red Sebastian and his song Strobe Lights. It's a Eurotrance/techno track.
by dryrunguy Luxembourg selected Laura Thorn and her song in French, La Poupée Monte Le Son. It's a tribute to Luxembourg's first Eurovision winner and the circumstances surrounding her selection and participation in the content. Hence, the puppet/marionette theme.
Here's an English translation of the lyrics:
[Verse 1]
If you only see me as a perfect doll
Who smiles and then stays silent when you wish
Forget me, I am not your puppet
That's how it is, that's how it is
Your little ride stops
[Verse 2]
If you think a man like you can manipulate me
Go back to mommy, you'd better capitulate
Or else it's me who will disarticulate you
Watch out, watch out
Because I'm taking the controls
[Pre-Chorus]
New user manual, I can do everything without you
It's a different scheme, a different era
I'm raising my voice, so don’t try to play
A ventriloquist
[Chorus]
The doll turns up the sound
Na, na-na-na, na-na, remember your lesson well
Na, na-na-na, na-na, the doll turns up the sound
Na, na-na-na, na-na, watch out, my boy
Na, na-na-na, na-na, the doll turns up the—
[Verse 3]
If you thought I was fragile like porcelain
Or more malleable, like polyethylene
I'm not like that, I need oxygen
Don’t hold it against me, don’t hold it against me
A new world is calling me
[Verse 4]
If you planned to display me in your showcase
With your whole collection of figurines
Sorry for you, but I'm the only one who determines
Where my heart goes, my heart goes
Yes, I pull the strings
[Pre-Chorus]
New user manual, I count only on myself from now on
It's the signal, you see, of a different era
I'm raising my voice to trigger in you
The electric shock
[Chorus]
The doll turns up the sound
Na, na-na-na, na-na, remember your lesson well
Na, na-na-na, na-na, the doll turns up the sound
Na, na-na-na, na-na, watch out, my boy
Na, na-na-na, na-na, the doll turns up the sound
[Bridge]
Your doll, as you call her
Turns up the decibels
She is the echo of a new generation
Without rags or plastic
In her characteristics
Your doll leads the music
She turns up the, she turns up the
She turns up the sound
[Chorus]
The doll turns up the sound
Na, na-na-na, na-na, remember your lesson well (Ah)
Na, na-na-na, na-na, the doll turns up the sound
(Ah) Na, na-na-na, na-na, watch out, my boy
Na, na-na-na, na-na, the doll turns up the sound
Na, na-na-na, na-na, remember your lesson well (Ah)
Na, na-na-na, na-na, the doll turns up the sound
by dryrunguy Next was Spain, I believe. They chose Melody and her song Esa Diva.
Here's an English translation of the lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Since I was very little
Before I knew how to walk
I was the life of the party in the world
For me, it was so normal
And I discovered a supreme one from the theater
Despising the others in the dressing room
But the supposed diva
By the echo of a life that didn't belong to her
Became enchanted
[Pre-Chorus]
A simple diva, like a mere mortal
A diva doesn't go over the hеads to shine
Her voice makеs her great, what else to say?
If she is free singing like a fish in water
[Chorus]
A diva is brave, powerful
Her life is a garden full of thorns and roses
She rises again dancing
With more strength than a hurricane
[Verse 2]
She is the mother who wakes up early
She is the artist without a label
With money or without fortune
They are divas too
It’s not fame that defines your greatness
Equality is my flag
And music is my only illusion
[Pre-Chorus]
A simple diva, like a mere mortal
A diva doesn't go over the heads to shine
Her voice makes her great, what else to say?
If she is free singing like a fish in water
[Chorus]
A diva is brave, powerful
Her life is a garden full of thorns and roses
She rises again dancing
With more strength than a hurricane
You will see
[Bridge]
Diva, diva, diva, diva, diva, diva, diva, diva (Ah-ah, ah-ah)
Diva, diva, diva, diva, diva, diva, diva, diva (Ah-ah, ah-ah)
We are divas, you and I, woah
If she is free singing like a fish in water
[Chorus]
A diva is brave, powerful
Her life is a garden full of thorns and roses
She rises again dancing
With more strength than a hurricane
You will see, that diva is me
by dryrunguy Ireland chose Emmy and her song Laika party, which is a tribute to the Russian dog that was sent into outer space in the 1950s and died. (The most commonly cited cause is hypothermia, but that is a subject of debate.) Be forgiving of the studio. It's a terrible place to perform.
by dryrunguy Slovenia selected comedian Klemen to be their entry with his song How Much Time Do We Have Left. It's anything but a comedic entry. It's about when his wife was diagnosed with a terminal disease.
by dryrunguy On the opposite end of the emotional spectrum, Finland chose Erika Vikman and her song Ich Komme. The German title translates into "I'm Coming" in English. Yes, that. The rest of the lyrics are in Finnish.
Here's a translation in English:
[Intro]
I'm coming
[Verse 1]
Night falls, heart beats
They fall in love
Moon rises, earth arches
My gates are open
[Pre-Chorus]
(Hey) I am Erika, welcome
You are like gorgeous, trance god
Just make yourself at home, do what you want
And when you come, I'll come with you
[Chorus]
I'm coming, I'm coming
And before you come, I hear you screaming
I'm coming, I'm coming
And to that, I scream out loud, "I'm coming"
I'm coming, I'm coming
And together we come and be like
I'm coming, I'm coming
It's like that when you fall in love
Wonderful
[Verse 2]
I am Erika, nice to meet you
I'll dance with you evеn a wedding waltz, but naked
[Pre-Chorus]
I am Erika, you're full of stamina
Hit mе once again, grab my ass
And when you want more love, just shout "encore"
And, baby, I'm coming
[Chorus]
I'm coming, I'm coming
And again when you come, I hear you screaming
I'm coming, I'm coming
And all I can do is to cry, "I'm coming"
I'm coming, I'm coming
And together we come and be like
I'm coming, I'm coming
It's like that when you fall in love
[Bridge]
Let go and let it happen
Baby, surrender and come with me
The stars in your eyes and me on top of you
Baby, you deserve only good
Let go and let it happen
Baby, you can still fall in love with yourself
Stars in your eyes and me on top of you
Baby, you deserve only good
by dryrunguy And then there's Malta, which selected Miriana Conte and her song Kant (Singing). Only the title is in Maltese. The song's hook is Miriana singing "Serving Kant." Yes.
by dryrunguy Next up was Latvia. They chose the 6-women folk group Tautumeitas and their song Bur Man Laimi.
Here are the lyrics in English:
[Intro]
Ah-ah, ah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah
[Refrain]
Summon, summon, summon, summon, never can they ruin me
Summon, summon, summon, summon, never can they ruin me
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
[Chorus]
Others are making a bridge of steel, I'm making one of oak
Others are making a bridge of steel, I'm making one of oak
The bridge of steel turns to rust, thе oaken one evеrgreen
The bridge of steel turns to rust, the oaken one evergreen
The bridge of steel turns to rust, my oaken one evergreen
The bridge of steel turns to rust, my oaken one evergreen
[Bridge]
I didn't know my own happiness
I didn't know my own happiness
Until I met my misery
[Refrain]
Summon, summon, summon, summon, never can they ruin me
Summon, summon, summon, summon, never can they ruin me
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
[Bridge]
Ah-ah, ah-ah
(Never, never) Ah-ah, ah-ah
[Refrain]
Summon, summon, summon, summon, never can they ruin me
Summon, summon, summon, summon, never can they ruin me
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
[Outro]
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
Never, never, never, never, never can they ruin me
by dryrunguy Ukraine selected the group Ziferblat and their song Bird of Pray (not a typo). It's a mix of Ukrainian and English.
Here's a translation (and yes, in typical Ukrainian fashion, the English isn't perfect):
Come, come, and to me
My little bird
A difficult song flies away with wings
A little heart, a beloved heart
Don’t worry
Fate entrusted the world to the last of us
I am searching for light, moving mountains
And I call you
Fly
Bird
Im begging you
Begging you please just
Live
Share
My heart with someone who
Cares
Of
Me and my little bird of pray
Come back, come back home
The native path
The song of migratory birds will birth spring
I call you
Fly
Bird
Im begging you
Begging you just
Care
Of
Me and my little bird
Fly
Like a Bird
Where do you go
Im begging you please just
Live
Share
My heart with someone who
Flies
Bird
Im begging you
Begging you please just
Live
Share
My heart with someone who
Cares
Of
Me and my little bird of pray
by dryrunguy And the last entry for tonight is Poland, which selected Justyna Steczkowska (who represented Poland in Eurovision 30 years ago) with her song GAJA.
Here's the translation:
You wound my heart
You, who don't respect my love
You left your mark on me
You awakened the cry of loneliness
My name is Gaja
I am God, strength, my mother, love
When I cry
The world drowns in tears
I cradle the lost time in my arms
Gaja
I am Gaja
Time
I am Gaja
I am your Creator
Your soul's doom, your salvation
Time flows in the bloodstreem
Holy water washes away the destiny
My name is Gaja
I am God, strength, my mother, love
When I cry
The world drowns in tears
I cradle the lost time in my arms
My name is Gaja
I am Gaja
Time
Time
Time
by dryrunguy Today, international artist, fashionista, and prankster won the Estonian national selection in what was probably a landslide. FYI, this guy has an uncensored version of one of his music videos on PornHub. (EDIT: So they removed the video from YouTube shortly after it was released. A new music video was released on March 16. Here it is.)
Here's the "translation" of sorts:
[Intro]
Mi amore
Mi amore
Espresso macchiato, macchiato, macchiato
Por favore
Por favore
Espresso macchiato corneo
[Chorus]
Mi amore
Mi amore
Espresso macchiato, macchiato, macchiato
Por favore
Por favore
Espresso macchiato
Espresso macchiato
[Bridge]
Uh-huh
Uh-huh
Uh-huh
[Verse 1]
Ciao bella, I'm Tomaso
Addicted to tobacco
Mi like mi coffee very importante
No time to talk mi scusi
My days are very busy
And I just own this little ristorante
Life may give you lemons
When dancing with the demons
No stresso, no stresso
No need to be depresso
[Pre-Chorus]
Mi amore
Mi amore
Espresso macchiato, macchiato, macchiato
Por favore
Por favore
Espresso macchiato corneo
[Chorus]
Mi amorе
Mi amore
Espresso macchiato, macchiato, macchiato
Por favore
Por favorе
Espresso macchiato
Espresso macchiato
[Verse 2]
Mi like to fly privati
With 24 carati
Also mi casa very grandioso
Mi money numeroso
I work around the clocko
That's why I'm sweating like a mafioso
Life is like spaghetti
It's hard until you make it
No stresso, no stresso
It's gonna be espresso
by dryrunguy Kyle Alessandro won Norway's national selection with his song "Lighter."
by dryrunguy Katarsis won Lithuania's national selection with their song Tavo Akys.
Here's the translation:
Empty conversations only fuel the fire
The home burns, it starts to crush down
From her eyes the greatest rain
You see everything, has already started to rot
Only to project
Her
Your eyes see pain
To my eyes they only give a feeling
Your eyes see pain
To my eyes they only give a feeling
Your eyes see pain
To my eyes they only give a feeling
Your eyes see pain
To my eyes they only give a feeling
You, don't be afraid
I weep in your dreams
Only in your dreams I weep
You, don't be afraid
I weep in your dreams
Only in your dreams I weep
Yours (45 times according to the translator)
by dryrunguy And finally for today, Italy selected Olly and his song Balorda Nostalgia. They haven't posted his performance from tonight. But here's his performance of the same song on the opening night of Sanremo. Olly has a week to decide if he wants to represent Italy in Eurovision. My understanding is he has some concerts scheduled during Eurovision week.
Here's the translation:
Perhaps it won't be
Not even tonight
The right night to return together
Return to be together
Perhaps it won't be
Not even tonight
The lady overlooking the fourth floor told me
With a cigarette in her mouth
While hanging out her laundry
I told her that
I'd like
I'd like
I'd like
I'd like
I'd like
I'd like
To return to when
It was enough for us
To laugh, to cry, to make love
And then stay in silence for hours
Until we fall asleep on the sofa
With the remote control in hand
I don't know anymore how to do it without you
You who makes me live and forget
You who sings while you cook
And you call if you want the end
But how must I tell you
This life isn't life without you
But you know that tonight
Stupid nostalgia
I turn on the TV
Just to keep me company
What a beautiful spiel...
Well, in short
That seems like the manner to you
That you go and leave me here
I still search for you in the house when my back itches
And I still put an extra plate out when I set the table for dinner
I know only what I'd like,
I'd like
I'd like
I'd like
Yes I'd like
I'd like
To return to when
It was enough for us
To laugh, to cry, to make love
And then stay in silence for hours
Until we fall asleep on the sofa
With the remote control in hand
I don't know anymore how to do it without you
You who makes me live and forget
You who sings while you cook
And you call if you want the end
But how must I tell you
This life isn't life without you
But who knows why
Oh, this life isn't life without you
Perhaps it won't be
Perhaps it's already over
But I love you
And it was all life
by dryrunguy So, this weekend was a clean sweep for the guys. Today, Armenia selected Parg and his song Survivor. I believe the whole thing is in English.

Olly has decided he will not represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest. He will be replaced by Sanremo runner-up Lucio Corsi. Olly's statement on Instagram follows (click on See Translation for the English version):
by dryrunguy As noted in the previous post, Italy will now be represented by singer/songwriter Lucio Corsi. He was the runner-up to Olly at Sanremo by a very slim margin--0.04%, IIRC.
Here's the translation. Interesting stuff:
[Verse 1]
I wanted to be a tough guy
Who doesn't care about the future
A robot, a sumo wrestler
A crackpot on the run from a wolf dog
At the Bolo station
A goose that lays golden eggs
I'm nobody though
I wasn't born with a tough face
I'm also afraid of the dark
If I fight, I'll get them
So they make up my eyes black
But I never lost time
He's the one who left me behind
[Chorus 1]
"Living life is a piece of cake"
Mother used to tell me and I used to fall down from the trees
How hard the world is for the ordinary onеs
Who have little love around or too much sun in thеir glasses
[Verse 2]
I wanted to be a tough guy
Who doesn't care about the future, no
A robot, gold medalist of spit
The mugger who waits for you in the dark
The king of Porta Portese
The magpie who steals your faith
[Chorus 2]
"Living life is child's play"
Mother used to tell me and I used to fall down from the trees
How hard the world is for the ordinary ones
Who have little love around or too much sun in their glasses
I wanted to be tough
But I'm nobody
White judo belt
Instead of a star a sneeze
[Bridge]
Sunflowers with glasses told me:
"Be careful of the light"
And that moons without holes are shenanigans
Because after all it's useless to run away from your fears
[Chorus 3]
Living life is a piece of cake
I, I wanted to be a tough guy
But I'm nobody
[Outro]
I am none other than Lucio
I'm nothing but Lucio
by dryrunguy And today, Iceland selected its entry for Eurovision 2025. It's a duo of brothers. Here is their winning national final performance. It was performed in Icelandic.
Here are the lyrics in English:
Row here, row there
Rowing through the waves
There is nothing that can stop me now
Row here, row there
Rowing through the waves
There is nothing that can stop me now
I place wood on wood
And call it a boat
If I sink today
It's no problem
With steel oars
Which are enough for this year
With course towards the Faroe Islands
Yes, I am ready
I have a vest for a belt and waterproof shoes
Because the weather is rowdy and I've had enough
When the sea opens, the waves come
I'm alone on a boat on the look out for a better place
I haven't lost everything yet
But we hoist up the sails and set off again
Row here, row there
Rowing through the waves
There is nothing that can stop me now
Row here, row there
Rowing through the waves
There is nothing that can stop me now
I am still in the boat
Look at this, wow
Stopping in Greenland?
Yes, I am down
Steering at sea, I am the captain
Call me Gísli Marteinn
Many months since I last saw the sun
Want to spend the rest of my life out here at sea
When the sea opens, the waves come
I'm alone on a boat on the look out for a better place
I haven't lost everything yet
But we hoist up the sails and set off again
Row here, row there
Rowing through the waves
There is nothing that can stop me now
Row here, row there
Rowing through the waves
There is nothing that can stop me now
Row here, row there
Rowing through the waves
There is nothing that can stop me now
Row here, row there
Rowing through the waves
There is nothing that can stop me now
There is nothing that can stop me now
There is nothing that can stop me now
There is nothing that cаn ѕtop me now
by dryrunguy It's time to get caught up on Eurovision stuff. Earlier this week, Australia announced their entry for this year's contest. The artist is Go-Jo, and the song is called Milkshake Man. (Erika Vickman of Germany is singing about an orgasm, Mariana Conte of Malta is Serving Kant, and Go-Jo is, well... It won't take you long to get the drift of this one.) This song was internally selected, so no live version exists yet.
by dryrunguy Also earlier this week, the Netherlands announced their entry. It's Claude singing C'est La Vie. (No, not the Robbie Nevil version.) it is a mix of French and English lyrics. I will post them below. This song was also internally selected, so no live performance yet.
[Verse 1]
"C'est la vie", she sang to me
Je me rappelle, j'étais petit
Oh, I was just a little boy
Could I remember la mélodie, la mélodie ?
[Pre-Chorus]
C'est comme ci, c'est comme ça
C'est en haut et en bas
It goes up, it goes down
And around, and around
Que sera, oui sera ?
Me voici, me voilà
Chanter un, deux, trois
[Chorus]
C'est la-la-la-la, la vie
C'est la-la-la-la, la vie
Oui, c'est la-la-la-la, la
La-la-la-la
La-la-la, la vie
[Verse 2]
C'est la vie, et qu'à miracle
Sometimes in love, sometimes misérable
And I still hear my mama's voice, and suddenly
La mélodie, la mélodie
[Pre-Chorus]
C'est comme ci, c'est comme ça
C'est en haut et en bas
It goes up, it goes down
And around, and around
Que sera, oui sera ?
Me voici, me voilà
Chanter un, deux, trois
[Chorus]
C'est la-la-la-la, la vie
C'est la-la-la-la, la vie
Oui, c'est la-la-la-la, la
La-la-la-la
La-la-la, la vie
Oui, c'est la-la-la-la, la vie
Oui, c'est la-la-la-la, la vie
C'est la-la-la-la, la
La-la-la-la
La-la-la, la vie
[Bridge]
Oh, c'est la vie
La vie en rose
La vie en noir
Oh, this rollercoaster
And I will sing until it's over
It goes la, la-la, la-la-la
by dryrunguy On Friday night, Serbia concluded its national selection. The surprise winner was Princ and his song Mila. It's a Balkan ballad. English lyrics are posted below.
[Verse 1]
May that be my last supper
Let the eye of Cerberus drive me into the night
Let you be awakened by the scent of memories
And my music of your name
[Chorus]
Dear, you paid the price of me loving you
Dear, you brought back a life from the edge
There are many reasons for you to love another
But I care so much to keep you
[Verse 2]
This life is without grains of sugar
Since when is "no" a "yes", and faith infidelity
Let the one who tells you better lies kiss you
But let the one that risks it all have you
[Chorus]
Dear, you paid the price of me loving you
Dear, you brought back a life from the edge
There are many reasons for you to love another
But I care so much to keep you
[Instrumentalna pauza]
[Chorus]
Dear, you paid the price of me loving you
Dear, you brought back a life from the edge
There are many reasons for you to love another
But I care so much to keep you
by dryrunguy Earlier today, Denmark selected its entry. The winner (by 1 point) was Sissal and her song Hallucination. Lyrics are in English.
by dryrunguy A few hours later, Germany selected its entry. The winners were Abor & Tynna and their song Baller. The lyrics are in German. Below is an English translation.
[Chorus: Tynna]
I shoot holes into the night
Stars fall and crash onto my roof
It still hurts a little when I see you again
But I'll never come back, no matter what you tell me
I shoot holes into the night
Stars fall and crash onto my roof
It still hurts a little when I see you again
But I'll never come back, no matter what you tell me
[Verse 1: Tynna]
Chalk silhouettes on the sidewalk
Between us, there's a crime scene like on CSI
You said "Baby, I'm sorry" for the first time
Should've known that that was the end of us
[Pre-Chorus: Tynna]
You put a period at the end of the sentence as if you'd never known me
So I switch perfumes and buy myself a new outfit
I feel that urge again, I want the end of the world
Huh, I think that's it, I shoot for the stars
[Chorus: Tynna]
I shoot holes into the night
Stars fall and crash onto my roof
It still hurts a little when I see you again
But I'll never come back, no matter what you tell me
I shoot holes into the night
Stars fall and crash onto my roof
It still hurts a little when I see you again
But I'll never come back, no matter what you tell me
[Verse 2: Tynna]
I see the star shards on my skin like glitter
I've learned that what doesn't kill me only makes me more chic
Would you still catch a bullet for me?
'Cause your weapon is now in my hand (Shoot)
[Pre-Chorus: Tynna]
You put a period at the end of the sentence as if you'd never known me
So I switch perfumes and buy myself a new outfit
I feel that urge again, I want the end of the world
Huh, I think that's it, I shoot for the stars
[Chorus: Tynna]
I shoot holes into the night
Stars fall and crash onto my roof
It still hurts a little when I see you again
But I'll never come back, no matter what you tell me
I shoot holes into the night
Stars fall and crash onto my roof
It still hurts a little when I see you again
But I'll never come back, no matter what you tell me
[Outro: Tynna]
I shoot, la-la
I shoot, la
La-la-la-la-la-l—
by dryrunguy Oops. I made a booboo. I just counted up the songs posted here (not including the first winner from Italy who declined to participate in Eurovision) and realized my count was one song off.
I had missed posting Azerbaijan's entry, which was released on February 19. My apologies. Mamagama is the artist (a band), and the song is Run With U.
by Oploskoffie Than you so much, Dry, for making my preparations this much easier Now to plan a moment for my little preview party...

There are folks out there who believe Netherlands has a winner this year. Sure, a little of that is tied to Joost's (fairly certain) unfair disqualification last year. But Claude's song has merit, for sure.
by dryrunguy Croatia just selected its national winner for 2025, hoping for a good follow-up to their 2nd place finish with Baby Lasagna at Eurovision in 2024. They selected Marko Bošnjak and his song Poison Cake. It won the jury and finished 4th with the Croatian public. This is his performance after being announced the winner rather than his performance that won him the title.
by dryrunguy Austria released its entry today. The song is Wasted Love by a young artist named JJ who brings a background in opera/pop-opera. The song reflects that.
by dryrunguy We still have more Eurovision songs to come for the 2025, but the last three national finals were held today.
First up was Sweden's Melodifestivalen. Finnish group KAJ managed to defeat returning Eurovision winner, Måns Zelmerlöw (2015) by a mere 7 points with their song Bara Bada Bastu, which basically is about going to the sauna. The translation follows the video.
[Intro]
Well then
[Verse 1]
The clock strikes, it's time now
All worries will soon disappear
The best cure for body and soul
Four wood-paneled walls
[Pre-Chorus]
(Oh, eh-oh, eh-oh)
Our firewood heats just as well
(Oh, eh-oh, eh-oh)
As tango with Arja Saijonmaa
(One, two, three, sauna)
[Chorus]
We're gonna have a sauna, sauna
Steam up and let go of all stress today
Sauna brothers, we're the ones who glow
100 degrees, well then
Just having a sauna, sauna
Throw it on so that the sweat just whirls around
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Having a sauna, yeah
We're gonna have a sauna, sauna
Steam up and let go of all stress today
Sauna brothers, we're the ones who glow
100 degrees, well then
Just having a sauna, sauna
Throw it on so that the sweat just whirls around
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Having a sauna, yeah
[Post-Chorus]
Sauna
Sauna
Yeah exactly
[Verse 2]
Pour water and more steam on it now
Tick-tick-tock, how long can you take it?
90 degrees, we're almost there
Damn, it's getting hot in here
[Chorus]
We're gonna have a sauna, sauna
Steam up and let go of all stress today
Sauna brothers, we're the ones who glow
100 degrees, well then
Just having a sauna, sauna
Throw it on so that the sweat just whirls around
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Having a sauna, yeah
[Post-Chorus]
Sauna
[Bridge]
Just having a sauna, just having a sauna
Just having, just having, just having a sauna
Just having a sauna, just having a sauna
Just having, just having, just having a sauna (Do not cover)
Just having a sauna, just having a sauna
Just having, just having, just having a sauna
Just having a sauna, just having a sauna
Just having, just having, just having a sauna
[Chorus]
We're gonna have a sauna, sauna
Steam up and let go of all stress today
Sauna brothers, we're the ones who glow
100 degrees, well then
Just having a sauna, sauna
Throw it on so that the sweat just whirls around
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Having a sauna, yeah
Sauna
[Outro]
Just having a sauna, just having a sauna
Just having, just having, just having a sauna
Just having a sauna, just having a sauna
Just having, just having, just having a ѕauna
Sauna
by dryrunguy Next up, San Marino. They selected Gabry Ponte and his song Tutta l'Italia. FYI, this song was a big hit during Italy's Sanremo broadcast some weeks back. English translation follows.
Mom, tonight I won't come back
but for sure I'm going to end up in some bed, then I'll sleep
We're all good guys, alright
Spaghetti, wine and pater noster
And the Monalisa smiles
It's ok, but she's in Paris
Forbidden kisses in black streets
Sad but happy eyes, how many friends of a friend
And you sing, I hear you between the screams
The lights pass our fingers
It's ok if you've never heard it
But with this thing it jumps
All Italy, all italy, all italy
All italy, all italy, all italy
Let us dance with a glass in our hands
Tomorrow we'll regret saying 'I love you'
As here, we'll be heard by
All Italy, All italy, all italy
Football is being kicked
Fashion is making rags
Gourmet cuisine with leftovers, blessed saint Craxi
And how many coins
but the wishes are other's
With gold necklaces under tank tops
Blue car with lights on, come on people come on
And you sing, I hear you between the screams
The lights pass our fingers
It's ok if you've never heard it
But with this thing it jumps
All Italy, all italy, all italy
All italy, all italy, all italy
Let us dance with a glass in our hands
Tomorrow we'll regret saying 'I love you'
As here, we'll be heard by
All Italy, All italy, all italy
one two three four
by dryrunguy And then a shocker shook Portugal (well, everyone outside of Portugal--this is what Portugal so often does, select something that wasn't on anyone's radar except some of their own).
Portugal selected the band NAPA and their song Deslocado. English lyrics follow.
[Verse 1]
I count the days for myself with my suitcase packed
There was almost no space left
For the longing I had carried
From the blue, I see the garden
Right behind the wing
Mother, look out the window
I’m almost home, I’m almost home
I’m almost home, I’m almost home
[Chorus]
No matter how may seem
I’ll never belong to that city
The sea of people, the different sun
The pile of concrete
It doesn’t provoke anything in me
It doesn’t feel like homе
[Verse 2]
Because I came from afar
I camе from the middle of the sea
In the heart of the ocean, I have my whole life
I walk my path thinking of returning
To my home, my island, my peace, Madeira
If I explain it to you word by word
You’ll never understand the pain that silences me
The loneliness that haunts the moment of departure
I carry the peace of knowing I can return
Mother, look out the window, I’m almost there
[Chorus]
No matter how may seem
I’ll never belong to that city
The sea of people, the different sun
The pile of concrete
It doesn’t provoke anything in me
It doesn’t feel—
The sea of people, the different sun
The pile of concrete
It doesn’t provoke anything in me
It doesn’t feel like home
by Togtdyalttai Such a wide open year this looks like so far. I think the quality is a bit down but I'm excited to see who wins. Israel and France might still join the contenders.

Yes, I think I agree the quality is down this year. (Last year was also a difficult year to follow.) I'm struck by the parity, though. It's pretty easy to pick about 5-10 songs that stand out and a few that go straight to the bottom of the list. But between those two groups, you could rank a song 6th or 26th and make a pretty good case either way.
I'm struggling a bit because I haven't heard "my" song for the season yet. Last year was pretty easy. I heard Rim Tim Tagi Dim early in the season, latched on to it, and still haven't let go. But that has not happened yet this year. The closest song to it was Lusterka from the Polish national selection, which finished second, but I couldn't argue with the winner. Justyna was my second favorite of the selection and is still my #3 overall. That's how good (at least to me) the top two in the Poland selection were.
by dryrunguy Israel released its song today. It's New Day Will Rise by Yuval Raphael. It is mostly in English with a second verse in French and a Hebrew bridge worked in.
[Verse 1]
And even if you say goodbye
You'll never go away
You are the rainbow in my sky
My colors in the grey
My only wish upon a star
Sunshine in the day
The only song that my piano ever plays
[Verse 2]
And even if you say goodbye
You'll always be around
To life me up and take me high
Keep my feet close to the ground
Are you proud of me tonight?
Dreams are coming true
I choose the light, nothing to lose if I lose you
[Chorus]
New day will rise, life will go on
Everyone cries, don't cry alone
Darkness will fade, all thе pain will go by
But we will stay, even if you say goodbyе
[Verse 2]
[Chorus]
New day will rise, life will go on
Everyone cries, don't cry alone
Darkness will fade, all the pain will go by
But we will stay, even if you say
New day will rise, life will go on
Everyone cries, don't cry alone
Darkness will fade, all the pain will go by
But we will stay the love of my life
[Bridge]
מים רבים לא יכבו
את האהבה ונהרות, לא ישטפוה
[Chorus]
New day will rise
Everyone cries, don't cry alone
Darkness will fade, all the pain will go by
But we will stay
[Outro]
Even if you say goodbye
A new day will rise
New day will rise
by dryrunguy 2024 winner Switzerland released its 2025 entry today. The artist is Zoë Më, and the song is titled Voyage. It's our third entry entirely in French this year. (France's entry will be released in the next day or two or three.) English lyrics are below.
My innocent eyes discover the world
In a naive way that could confuse
The demons of the night
Mmh, mmh
You throw words at me that choke me
No matter what happens, I lie down
Close to you tonight
Mmh, mmh
One day you'll understand
That flowers are more beautiful
When you water them
You've cut me so many…
…times
If you want, I'll go
With you to take a trip
Take a trip, a trip
Take a trip with you
Let me love you even if you don't love me
I'll drown in your tears
I'll share your soul's emptiness
You devour me with your gaze
No matter what happens, I'll never stop
Singing for you
One day you'll understand
That flowers are more beautiful
When you water them
You've cut me so many…
…timeѕ
If you want, I'll go
With you to take a trip
Take a trip, a trip
Take a trip with you
Take a trip, take a trip
Take a trip, take a trip
Take a trip, take a trip
With me
Take a trip, take a trip
Take a trip, take a trip
Take a trip, take a trip
With me, with…
…me
If you want, I'll go
With you to take a trip
Take a trip, a trip
Take а trip with you
by dryrunguy Cyprus released its entry today. The artist is Theo Evan, and the song is Shh. The lyrics are in English.
by dryrunguy Georgia released its entry today. The artist is Mariam Shengelia, and the song is titled Freedom. The lyrics are a mix of Georgian and English, but I have not yet been able to find a translation. My apologies.
by ti-amie Thanks for the translations Dry.
by dryrunguy And the last entry for Eurovision 2025 has finally been released. It's the song from France (they were the first country to release their song last year). The artist is Louane, and the song is Maman. Lyrics are below.
The song was debuted live at a football event in France. That version is posted first. The studio version is posted second.
There are no more lovers
There are no more beds
Finally, you see
I've built my life
And the emptiness is great
The questions too
How are you?
Do you see everything here?
And I've changed a lot
From you I've kept
Everything that makes me who I am
I'm better, I know where I'm going
I stopped counting the years
And if I wanted to stop time
Now it's me she calls mom
Mom, mom, mom
I found love
Indelible
You always know the real one
Even when time flies
When he holds my hand
I'm not afraid of anything anymore
And it makes me feel like before
When you held my hand
I'm better, I know where I'm going
I stopped counting the years
And if I wanted to stop time
Now it's me she calls mom
Mom, mom, mom
Mom, mom, mom
I'm better, I know where I'm going
I stopped counting the years
And if I wanted to stop time
Now it's me she calls
Mom, Mom, mom, Mom
Mom
If I wanted to stop time
Now it's me she's calling
Mom

And it's a ballad, no less.
by dryrunguy So, now that we have the songs, now it a good time to remind everyone what happens next. That would be the two semifinals that will select 10 songs each to advance to the final. But first...
The Big 5 and last year's winner do not have to qualify and automatically advance to the final. They are:
France

Switzerland (last year's winner)
The following countries (15) will compete in the first semifinal on Tuesday, May 13:
FIRST HALF
Sweden
Ukraine
Slovenia
Iceland
Estonia
Poland
Portugal
SECOND HALF
Netherlands
Azerbaijan
Albania
San Marino
Belgium
Cyprus
Croatia
Norway
Only these countries and Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and the Rest of the World (people in countries not competing) will vote in the first semifinal.
The following countries (16) will compete in the second semifinal on Thursday, May 15:
FIRST HALF
Austria
Lithuania
Armenia
Montenegro
Greece
Ireland
Australia
Latvia
SECOND HALF
Czechia
Israel
Malta
Finland
Denmark
Luxembourg
Georgia
Serbia
Only these countries along with France, Germany, UK, and the Rest of the World will vote in the second semifinal.
Tomorrow, I will try to make a point of sharing some overall thoughts on the lay of the land--because there are a lot of interesting things to point out.
