I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the Russian players didn't want to take the chance six weeks ago, and so didn't apply for acceptance for these events. This article is from a few weeks ago so I'm not sure how the situation has evolved. There were two Belarussian players in the draws of Nottingham, but no Russian players.

by skatingfan I guess Tommy Paul, and Grigor Dimitrov were late entries - surprised to see Paul in the qualifying draw.

Indeed. I would have thought he had a high enough ranking for direct entry.

by JTContinental FAA out with a knee injury

by ashkor87 Very strong field!

by ponchi101 Kyrgios out too. Still dealing with mental issues.
I don't see how he can come back anytime soon. Hopefully so, but it seems he is in a very fragile state.

Not the injury he sustained helping his mom with the car jacking?

by meganfernandez Translation: Badosa arrived in Halle and gave Tsitsipas a kiss just before (or is it just after?) his match against Barrere. Looking like a real couple. Is she hurt, or is she skipping her own W prep to hang out with him?

Badosa is out injured with a Spinal Stress Fracture she developed at the Italian Open. There's no time frame on her return.

If they aren't a couple, it's strange to go hang with him in Halle... nothing else to do? Recuperate or take a welcome break off the tour?

by ti-amie What was that about grass courts and injury? He won his match but this is a nasty fall.

Wait where's the obligatory shot of a totally entranced Badosa cheering him on?

Badosa is out injured with a Spinal Stress Fracture she developed at the Italian Open. There's no time frame on her return.
If they aren't a couple, it's strange to go hang with him in Halle... nothing else to do? Recuperate or take a welcome break off the tour?
You have been missing on a lot of gossip as of late. They have been posting pictures and all class of SM stuff. They are making LOVE STORY look downright serious. They are the most in love people in history since the evolution of eukaryotes.

Yes, but that also doesn't mean that this isn't PR relationship.

I DID put that down in writing. I said I was green with envy, and I will repeat it:
Young, beautiful, rich, globe trotting, playing tennis. And Dr. Faustus STILL HAS NOT shown up with the contract (my blood-soaked pen is ready) ;)

by ashkor87 Alcaraz playing better with every match! Looking forward to seeing him do well at W! Dimitrov next, a real test.

by ponchi101 I say for him it will be all about the footwork.
And he will need to curb the "run around the BH" a bit. It may take him out of position too much.

by ti-amie That was a good match between Alcaraz and Dimitrov. The first set had a bit of every thing tennis wise with Carlitos winning a crucial game 6 saving three break points and took the first set 6-4. Dimitrov broke to open the second set but Carlitos calmly came back and took it 6-4.

by JTContinental Korda is the first American SF at Queens since Sam Querrey in 2012, which is the year that Nalbandian was defaulted in the final for kicking an advertising board.

by ponchi101 You are being generous. For kicking the advertisement ON THE CHAIR of a line umpire, which splintered and hit such umpire.
Nasty event, that day.

by ashkor87 Korda really doing well on grass .something his father never really did...

by ponchi101 He strikes me as a "smooth" mover, which on grass is essential. One moment out of balance, and you have no grip under your feet, so you go down. So, on grass, he may have a bit of a natural advantage.

by ponchi101 17 CURRENT players have titles on all three surfaces.
My conclusion: there are NO MORE surface specialists. All surfaces are playing very much alike.
(Novak, Rafa, Alcaraz, Medvedev, Zverev, Monfils (?) and... tougher than I thought).

I got a few more - had to double check a couple - Tiafoe, and Coric have exactly 3 career titles each on a different surface.

Murray, Cilic, Tsitsipas, Tiafoe, Coric, Bautista-Agut, Dimitrov, Isner, Gasquet, Thiem,

by ponchi101 Thiem has a title on grass
Totally forgot about that. And forgot that Grigor has been around for a long time, and that Cilic has not retired.

Thiem won Stuttgart in 2016, beating Federer in the semis - winning a grass tournament by beating Roger along the way tends to stick in my mind.

by ashkor87 De Minaur versus Alcaraz was a treat to watch - loved the way they both used every inch of the court.. how tennis should be played!
