by ashkor87 This court is rated the fastest ...
Swiatek and Sinner defending champions..
by ashkor87 Correction..that is Shanghai..Beijing is sort of medium-fast
by ashkor87 The race to Saudi is now really between Collins, Navarro and QZ..this is a big chunk of points ..how will QZ do in front of a home audience? I suspect she will make it, has a cool head...
by ponchi101 QZ's problems are not head related. It is her control. Sometimes it is not there.
by ashkor87 wonder what those are..?
meanwhile, Collins has also withdrawn.. illness..hope it is not her autoimmune flaring up..
by ponchi101 She simply doesn't want to play. After RG, she did not play in a single Wimbledon warm up, played three matches there, did give it a shot at the Olympics, and we saw the summer tour. All in all, she has played 18 matches and 40 sets since RG.
She simply likes to play as little and selectively as possible. She just can't say it.
by ashkor87 It is also possible that she is not well..autoimmune diseases...

by ponchi101 Pretty strong draw, even without Iga or Elena.
I want to see what Navarro does. She has now become top ten. She played very well at the USO. So now, can she back that up. She is now in the area where losing before the SF's will be a bad tournament for her.
by ashkor87 With the caveat that not everyone may be taking this event seriously, I am watching Anisimova and Shnaider, and hoping Coco is back (does she have a coach yet?)
by ponchi101 Does she have a SERVING coach? That is the sole part that needs immediate attention. She won the Open with her other strokes.
Anisimova. I know this is PC incorrect to ask, but last time I saw her play, her body looks different. Did she get some aesthetics treatment? She looks bigger (sorry).

I understand the question and I don't remember the girls being that big either. She needs to talk to the people who make bras for Serena though. I think they're a company called Berlei and they're based in Australia.

Hello, last week in Seoul i sprained some ligaments in my foot which unfortunately need some more time to heal

. It means i can’t play in Beijing but I hope to be back competing as soon as i can

The streets are saying she's headed to Paris Fashion Week. She's a brand ambassador for Dior.
by ashkor87 Raducanu even speaks Mandarin.. she wouldnt be leaving China for no reason..?
Happy to see Parks has qualified.. she needs the matches in the big league..
by ponchi101 I don't think she would blame it on a fictional injury that could be easily checked.
She is not that big. Maybe her body can't withstand the rigors of the tour.

Turns out Zverev has been playing with pneumonia and has withdrawn from Beijing now.
Was obvious he was struggling, especially in the Fritz match, but to get the win in that important Tiafoe match was a gutsy effort.
Source:
https://www.zdf.de/nachrichten/sport/te ... g-100.html
Edit: I am not trash talking Tiafoe, this is tongue in cheek and clickbaity, i admit.
Tiafoe played a great match and dominated the match for the most part.
by ashkor87 havent seen any videos of this year but going by last year, the court seems medium paced, roughly comparable with Korea..
Alcaraz will like the court but does he have any energy left after Laver Cup?
Sabalenka will like the court too but she may have mentally shut down after the USO.. it may be best to asterisk this one.. no Rybakina, no Swiatek..
by ashkor87 seems a bit faster than Korea was..now that I have seen a couple of videos of this year.. still, sort of medium to medium fast
by ashkor87 My favorite Parks struggled a bit but won in the end.. hope she does well, finds a good coach , and wins Wimbledon (some day)
the 'experts' will wait till she gets to top10 before they say it, of course. I see little expertise in that!

No, c'mon. You don't asterisk any tournament because somebody did not go. Imagine if we start doing that; how many tournaments would then be "worthy"?
There will be 64 players there. That validates anything.

Serena had mentioned a few brands she wore but I thought half the time she wasn't wearing the right fit (or maybe material).
I think Anisimova just aged, you keep growing until 25 (she's 23). The rest of her body looks changed too.

by JTContinental Shuai Zhang snapped a 24 match losing streak with her win over McCartney Kessler. Only one player (Madeleine Pegel with 29) since the open era has had a longer string of losses, and that was back at the start of the tour when I'm sure there was a wide range in the level of skills for players.
by mick1303 I'm wondering if Vince's Spadea 21 was ever outdone in ATP history.

One of these days I'll get around and write a code to check for this ) Essentially it will be a variation of winning streaks check, which is already incorporated in the weighted ranking. But still needs time to actually do it and test the results. So far the life is too hectic with war and all that.

Do a code for consecutive appearances of the string "1R".

And we "know" what you are going through, so it is simply re-assuring when you stick around.
(In quotes because, no, we don't know. At least I don't).

Wikipedia says he is still the record holder
One of these days I'll get around and write a code to check for this ) Essentially it will be a variation of winning streaks check, which is already incorporated in the weighted ranking. But still needs time to actually do it and test the results. So far the life is too hectic with war and all that.
Do a code for consecutive appearances of the string "1R".

And we "know" what you are going through, so it is simply re-assuring when you stick around.
(In quotes because, no, we don't know. At least I don't).
Well, I do not store matches as "1R", "2R" etc. I have them as R128, R64, R32. Which makes determining sequences of wins and losses a bit more complicated. Besides the losing streak is a fringe stat, which only causes passing interest. I will do it, but it is of lesser priority.
Regarding the war: in May we were preparing to flee again. Our relatives in Kiev were inviting us to live with them for a time. We just stayed in Kharkov, because I had scheduled dentist appointments and were preparing to go after that. But then the russians were stopped. Now the situation is slightly better overall and personally as well. I've already hit 60 yo and free to leave the country. My son, who is in the US, does the paperwork for us to join him. If all goes well, we might just do it.

I don't think she would blame it on a fictional injury that could be easily checked.
She is not that big.
Maybe her body can't withstand the rigors of the tour.
It certainly hasn't so far.

Pretty strong draw, even without Iga or Elena.
I want to see what Navarro does. She has now become top ten. She played very well at the USO. So now, can she back that up. She is now in the area where losing before the SF's will be a bad tournament for her.
Test results: F.
C'mon, Emma. Don't do this.

And of course...she won her next match too.

He has said things on court that were less than palatable. Has gotten into very heated arguments with some chair umpires.
I can't start looking up some samples but, during his Aussie run to the final against Rafa, his rant on court about Aussie's being drunks (especially coming from a Russian) was, let's say, a bit odd.
On the other side, his comment after losing to Rafa at the USO was golden.

So, the court speed was the difference in a match that went 7-6 (3) in the third.
Alcaraz won 5 more points in the 3rd set. Take out the difference of 4 in the TB, and they played 12 games so evenly that the difference was 1 point.
But, numbers are numbers. And you did say it was a slight favorable setting for Alcaraz.

I envy your tennis broadcaster. Down here, the analysis of the court conditions is constant. To me, it seems like the courts morph totally at the slightest bit of change, if you listen to broadcasters. It is sunny, the court changes, they closed the roof, the court changes, it is night, the court changes. It rained 25 miles away, the court changes.
I gather than in the end, I was always such a mediocre player that those things did not affect my lousy strokes.

by ponchi101 Muchova has enough touch to handle Sabalenka's power. Her hands are quick enough. But, if she tries to slug it out against her, that won't work.
She has to use that slice BH a lot, keeping the ball low on Aryna.
I say Aryna will win, though. She is inspired right now.

Unbalanced draw. Should've been the final.
by
ponchi101 We like numbers. How could you have a balanced draw always?
Let's say.
1 & 2 are drawn on top and bottom. Then 3 and 4 are drawn. If the sums of the halves are unbalanced (1 + 3 = 4, 2 + 4 + 6), the next round is drawn so that the sums are balanced:
1 + 3 get to draw 6 + 8 (18), but 2 + 4 get to draw 5 + 7 (18).
Draw the next round at random, and repeat the formula for round 5.
You get random draws, but the draw would be more "balanced".
Every single tennis player or fan could follow that, right?
(Muchova right now is an anomaly; her ranking cannot reflect her game because she was off for so long)
by JTContinental Muchova can't stay healthy long enough to have a regular presence in the rankings.

Your last sentence sums it up.

Upset special..Starodubtseva (where did she come from? The stars?) may end up beating Coco today, I predict
The college circuit, specifically Old Dominion
by ashkor87 Awesome win by Muchova over Sabalenka! She is finally able to play a full 3 set match at a high level in her return after injury...
by ashkor87 Sabalenka seemed to lose intensity and focus in the crucial last game of the third set.. seemed mentally tired, unwilling to fight on.. 4 errors one after the other..
by ponchi101 But that is her style. She creams everything as hard as she can. And, well, there will be games in which they will not land in.
I only saw the highlights (of course), but there was something I found odd. Both of them hit several FH's with that odd slapping motion, hitting it with slice and sidespin. It is not a good shot, as it is defensive, but it seems they were not positioned well.
Anyway. If Muchova can stay healthy, she remains a threat to win any match she plays in. Even on clay vs Iga.
by ashkor87 Yes, hope so anyway! She is the most beautiful player to watch ..

by ti-amie I couldn't stay awake for the Sabalenka vs Muchova match and woke up in time to see Qinwen serving Mirra Andreeva a bagel in the second set of that match. At one point Andreeva was reduced to tears but she fought hard in the third set. Qinwen was just not going to lose to her.
by ponchi101 Three seeds and Muchova. That has ended up being a good tournament to watch.
Go, Karo!
by ashkor87 Coco vs Badosa and QZ vs Muchova...intriguing matchups...all good matches. Badosa has the power to hit through the court but Coco is simply a higher-class player, should win..the other one, I don't know..would love to see Muchova win but beating Qinwen in front of a Chinese crowd?! Very hard!! Qinwen is also due for a title or two.. great run at the AO and also Olympics of course...she likes slower courts too.
by skatingfan Badosa was up a set & a break, but let Gauff back in the match, and Gauff won in 3.
by ashkor87 Watching the highlights video ..it is evident Badosa isn't a great mover...unlike Coco ..
Coco hasn't totally gotten over her tendency to spoon the ball short on the forehand when she lets the ball get too close to her body..still does it a lot
by ashkor87 Woof! Muchova blew QZ away...have to see that!! Amazing win..Coco next.
by ashkor87 While Muchova has some great performances at majors, she has won only one tournament in her life, Korea in 2019!
by ponchi101 I also did not realize that she was 28 already. That window will not be open for too long.
But she is playing top 10 tennis. Maybe even top 5.
by ashkor87 Certainly top 5 right now
by mick1303 Muchova's game is a treat for the eyes. Good that she starts to get results.
by ti-amie Qinwen's match vs Mirra Andreeva was very physical and if she'd won vs Muchova I would've been very surprised.

by ashkor87 if we go by the past, and h2h record, Coco should win. My tennis insinct tells me Muchova is the better player right now, on this slower surface, should win.
what do you think?
by skatingfan Muchova is playing very tight to open the match, and Gauff is just letting her miss.
by ponchi101 About to end, and very surprised by the score. I thought Muchova was playing at a better level this week.
And the court speed thing, here it goes. It makes no difference for players at this level. They all know how to adjust to the slight difference. These are just the normal fluctuations in their games, and it seems to me that today, Muchova is just a bit off. And that is enough for this score.
I said she was playing top 5 tennis, a couple of days ago. Well, she is not today, and her standard deviation in quality of game is this wide.

I feel like many of Coco's wins, later into tournaments, rely on more than usual errors from her opponents.
by ashkor87 she went to the Forbidden city, and Muchova didn't! brought luck to Carlitos too
by JTContinental Muchova has yet to win a set against Coco in three matches

The same way that Chinese people do - VPN.
by Fastbackss Yes - but it's "different" for the average layperson versus an organization
by ponchi101 Maybe they are using starlink.
Thank the lord for that savior of free speech!
(Joke. Bad joke)
btw. I am on a boat and they recently moved to Starlink, as opposed to Marlink. We can't tell the difference (they are both a bit sluggish. And, it IS a Chinese vessel).
