by ashkor87 Kvitova looking like the champion she is..against Sasnovich thus far..let us see how long she can keep it up..Sasnovich is a very good player too...

by ashkor87 Badosa has done a Badosa against Kostyuk..

by JTContinental I'm going to guess she reaggravated the stress fracture in her spine? She seemed to come back to the tour awfully fast for that sort of injury.

She's also pulled out of that draw

by JTContinental Per Twitter, she did hurt her back. I also found this lovely translation:
After yielding the first to a Kostyuk who reached everything, Badosa asked for physio, who attended him from behind, and after starting the second set losing his serve, he said goodbye to the tournament.
PS: Badosa had 20 UFEs in the first set, so it doesn't seem like Kostyuk needed to reach everything.

by JTContinental The first two sets of Alexandrova/Brengle is about as bad of tennis as you can see. Brengle has been pushing, so only has 9 winners through two tiebreak sets. Meanwhile, Alexandrova is overhitting everything and has racked up 60 UFEs in two sets.

I just can't with Brengle's service motion.

by JTContinental It is very weird. I think she has some sort of freak permanent arm injury from a blood draw, though.

by ashkor87 Gracheva has taken the first set against Sabalenka

by ashkor87 Akexandrova squealed out..Brengle is a giant-killer, not that Alexandrova is a giant.
Meanwhile Andreescu steadily holding a lead, good for her.

Yes, three blood draws for mandatory drug tests. She sued the WTA and ITF in 2018. As best I can tell, the case was dismissed, so she lost. https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/75 ... -tour-inc/

I think Brengle had match points or close.

by ashkor87 Meanwhile, great to see Galfi doing well..beat Niemeir...

by mick1303 After the behavior De Minaur displayed during Novak 2022 AO debacle (kicking a man while he is down), I consider each his loss a good thing.
Also Berrettini could use some good run.

Wow, I thought Niemeier was close to winning and backing up the Muchova upset. I don't know much about Galfi. The name is barely familiar. I don't know how some of you keep tradk of all the players.

by ponchi101 Badosa has a stress fracture on her spine; I can't think of a worst sport for that to heal.
Coming back at anything less than 100% is insane. Hope she will rest and recover totally.

Junior us open champion so I track her...

by meganfernandez Scoot over, Isner and Mahut! Bogdan and Tsurekno are 18-all in the match tiebreak!

Edit: Tsurenko won 20-18 and is barely able to move... Bodgan slumped over the net waiting... Bogdan had the open court a couple times in the last point and wouldn't go for it. Very safe, long rallies at the end.

by mick1303 And Bublik makes his best ever Grand Slam result. Never been past R32 until today.

I have words. Appalling and ghastly for starters. :gorgeous:

by Suliso Belinda out of practice and form supposedly. About to repeat her best ever Wimbledon result anyway. Draw has been relatively kind.

by nelslus AS always, with our favorites, tennis results giveth and taketh away. Rajeev and Joe lose 6-4 in the third. (I was expecting them to lose at any point at Wimbledon.) This whole year has been, at least relatively speaking, a considerable slump for them. Quite sad about this, TBH. With Rajeev heading to AARP-status, not sure if they can play top tennis again. But, they've won Slams, an ATP Championship, and a bunch of top tournaments. WAY more than I had any right to expect as a fan.

by nelslus Rublev was down a double break in the third, but comes back to win the set. He does appear to have some kind of injury though.

Bublik maybe better suited for grass than Rublev, but Rublev has more Grand Slam success to his credit and overall better player. We just saw how Mannarino beat Medvedev in Rosmalen but couldn't replicate the same in London. Those top 10 players are there for a reason. But Bublik has that talent. Maybe lesser version of Kyrgios so to speak. So he will have his chances.

by mick1303 It's not the first time when tinkering with the schedule, courts assignments, etc to give home favorite and extra advantage bites perpetrators in their behind. Remember Roland Garros dragging Monfils-Fognini match late into the night when the lightning was not suitable for night play in hopes that Monfils will carry the momentum? It also did not end well for them.

by skatingfan Delaying the finish of the match until today was never to Murray's advantage.

Bublik has always seemed to me to be one of those players that, if he were to put a bit more effort, would be at the top. All the strokes are super solid, the physique is there.
But he simply seems to be happy doing what he does.

by ashkor87 Good impressive wins by Svitolina over Kenin, and Keys. Bencic and Andreescu too..feels like 2018 or something...
Alcaraz keeps us up to date, of course..!
Pegula looking good too..she usually does, of course..only a tier 1 player can beat her, and she hasn't run into one yet...

by ponchi101 What would be the biggest surprise so far? Ruud is not; he himself has said he is no good on grass. Garcia today? She has been playing very low quality tennis during this year.
Coco? Kenin is a former slam champ, so I say that, although not expected, is not terribly surprising.
A very uneventful week, so far.

by ashkor87 Voundrousova is the real revelation thus far. She is beating people she had no business to beat (vekic) and on a surface doesn't suit her game ..

Remember Andrei used to tell the most outrageous things, with a straight face, to see if the people would get the joke. This might have been one example of that.

Remember Andrei used to tell the most outrageous things, with a straight face, to see if the people would get the joke. This might have been one example of that.
At the time when Andrei was active I did follow him, but all I have access to were newspapers (actual hard paper versions). Internet was kind of expensive yet (aside from dial-up which was slow and unreliable). So I was not familiar with his interviews, apart from what he's done for Ukrainian papers and TV. If there were any jokes there, they were probably edited out ((

by ponchi101 Medvedev was really funny at times, and it was because of that. He would say incredible things and not move a muscle on his face. One day he was asked about that, and he explained that he wanted the people to laugh because the joke was funny, not because he was laughing.
One of the few players worth following in the interview room.
And, indeed. At the time, you had to read about him. We were not at this level of internet scrutiny and availability.
