Gauff bagels Ostapenko, who only won 7 points in the first set. She's spraying. Coco's going to need a practice session after this match. Keys hit the practice court after the Pegula match yesterday.

Here's hoping someone on Coco's team reminded her that taking the first set from Ostapenko means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Except she didn't even win them once. Gauff didn't have to do much, just keep the ball in, loop it at times, scramble at times. Ostapenko has had around 200 errors for the tournament. She stopped running on the last point, which was long, but Coco just looped a forehand crosscourt, and Ostapenko didn't move. She might have thought it was going wide, but facing match point, maybe you'd want to cover it just in case.

Gauff said she gets along well with Ostapenko off the court.

Nope. She didn't serve well in the last game, lots of missed first serves and a double, but she was more than good enough.

Mary Joe just said Coco it her heavy favorite to win the title. Has she forgotten that Sabalenka is alive and well?

Yes but Sabalenka hasn’t won 15 of her last 16 matches.

That doesn't make Gauff the heavy favorite. Sabalenka is better than distant second.

I agree "heavy favorite" is an overexaggeration (it is Mary Joe after all), although I'd give her a slight edge, especially given the murderer's row her draw has been.

I like Mary Joe Fernandez, but calling Gauff the heavy favorite is just America bias that they all guilty of, and it's not intentional like cynical fans think. The announcers are emotionally invested in the Americans doing well and it clouds their judgement. Having said that, Fernandez might turn out to be right, but the belief that Gauff is a heavy favorite is not coming from an objective voice.

I love watching Ostapenko play when she is in form, but I was not as impressed with her against Swiatek as all of the commentators. She played well, but that was all about Swiatek crumbling under the pressure. Even while crumbling, she must have hit 10 winners off of service returns, and Gauff did the same thing today in sweltering conditions that did not favor an out-of-shape Ostapenko.

Gauff is playing very well, but I think I would pick either Sabalenka or Keys over her if they met in the final. I reserve judgement until I see the next few matches, but that's how I lean right now. For those who laugh off Keys, her facing Gauff in the final would mean she beat Vondrousova and Sabalenka back to back. If she's not up to snuff, she'll never get to the final anway, but if she does, heck yeah, I would like her chances in the final.

Correct me if wrong, and I think I very well be.
Isn't Coco with Roger's agency? Which means, Tony Godsic's? Which means, Mary Joe's husband MANAGES Coco? Which means, freaking CONFLICT OF INTEREST WRITTEN IN FONT 250?

Yes but it's Brad Gilbert who has a huge conflict of interest.
