Not good.

He is 2-0 against Zverev but they have not played in a slam. But I would not have thought Fritz would beat Zverev in back-to-back slams, so what do I know? Paul does not hit as heavy a ball as Fritz but moves a lot better.

30/70. Paul just hasn’t won the big matches. And Zverev is in fine form.

45/55
Sure, Tommy does not have the credentials that Zverev has. But his best Slam is precisely this one, and he is playing a player that has lost all of his last slams' matches after being up. I am not sure if Zverev's diabetes catches up with him when the 5th set kicks in.

Coco's forehand has totally collapsed. Very poor match thus far.

And Gauff’s confidence suffers accordingly. She isn’t going to beat Sabalenka or Iga like this, even if she gets through this match. Which isn’t looking good.

Something needs to change, otherwise her position is hopeless (no break points yet!)

Badosa takes it 7-5, 6-4 over Gauff who lost the plot and was never able to get back to it.

An easy win for Badosa. I'm surprised...

An off night for Gauff to be sure, but Badosa had her A game starting at 5-5 in the first set.

And that is why I never bought Gauff's hot streak. Her forehand and second serve still break down under pressure, and that's being kind about her forehand, which was beyond pathetic for much of this match.

The year-end tournament win, though very surprising to me, I took with a grain of salt considering all of the strange winners the event had in the past who did not run with the momentum at all--Cibulkova (2016), Svitolina (2018), Muguruza (2021) and Garcia (2022). Yeah, Muguruza was a top-flight player, but she did nothing good in the run-up before or after her title. All credit to Gauff for beating an in-form Zheng and Sabalenka in the semis and final, but it seemed out of character.

She absolutely has to fix that forehand at least a little bit to win another slam in the next year or two.
