watching Samaonova, it is quite noticeable how drastically she switches her grip when she has to hit a forehand.. probably explains why she struggles on faster courts..takes time to do that, which she doesnt get. Her movement is not great, but it is not noticeably worse than, say, Rybakina..
Cleveland isnt fast, so she should be ok here.

Cirstea was impressive in winning her third career title. About once a year or once every other year, Cirstea gets hot and looks like a top-notch player. I caught a lot of her match against Swiatek in Cincy and she played very well there, too, but Iga was at the top of her game and routined her, so I am not surprised Cirstea ran through the weak draw in Cleveland.

I have never quite understood why she has not had a better career.

Props to the crowds in Cleveland. The stands looked packed every time I watched part of any match.
