by ponchi101 Arango will get a maximum of 20 points today. She is as thin as a reed.

by ashkor87 the good matches today are Bublik - Cilic and Noskova - Galfi (Galfi is a junior champion, and Noskova is Noskova).. will Tsitsipas survive? Unlikely..

by jazzyg I don't mean to continually bang on Mpetshi Perricard (oh wait, yes, actually that's exactly what I mean to do), but he has won eight points on Musetti's serve through 13 service games plus a tiebreak. To his credit, two of those points came in the first-set tiebreak he won, but his ineptitude on return remains historic, and as Ponch pointed out, he's capable of hitting big groundies. He just rarely does it during an opponent's service games.

Edit: it's now nine points won in 16 service games plus a tiebreak.

Edit 2: The match is over and M-P won only 13 of 100 return points. He finally won two points on Musetti's serve in the final game (and the only time in the match) when he went up 0-30 as Musetti got tight for a moment.

I watched him win the Lyon title last year. He looked good off the ground. I wonder if he is managing his energy in these B5 matches and not putting a ton into return games.

Right now, he is the ultimate Bot.

by Suliso Sinner didn't waste time, that's for sure.

by news727 19 seed Francisco Cerundolo is the first player of this year's USO to come back from two sets down to win it.

3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-3 to be exact.

I heard yesterday that he was the first person to ever win a 5 set match this year without having a single break point on his opponent's serve.

by jazzyg Only Cirstea (Cleveland) avoided the traditional let-down of the three players who won tournaments the week before a slam.

Fucsovics (Winston Salem) won eight games in three sets against the previously struggling Shapovalov.

Shnaider had a tough draw against Siegemund and reverted to her summer form after the one-week blip in Monterrey.

by ti-amie Tomljanovic served for the second set, lost a long rally and instead of being in a third set the set is level at 5 all.

by ti-amie Gauff just lost the second set TB to Tomljanovic 6-7(2).

by jazzyg There were some outrageously good points near the end of the second set of Gauff-Tomljanovic.

Tomljanovic kept that high level in the tiebreak while Gauff fell precipitously.

by ashkor87 Coco not impressive today.. Forehand as bad as ever, poor footwork, standing too far back to return, could have pressured the serve more.

by ti-amie And just like that it's 5 all in the third set. It's not just her mechanics Cori's not thinking well right now.

by ti-amie That was sheer will on Cori's part to keep herself upright and not fall. She wins the match 6-4, 6-7(2), 7-5.

by ponchi101 Coco takes it. But that was not a good omen.

About Perricard. I believe he has won TWICE this year in matches that he never had a BP.
I hate the term SERVEBOT; I believe that Goran, Pete, Boris and others that were labeled as that were mis characterized. But there comes a moment in which you cannot avoid the term. Perricard has to be told that winning a point in 20 strokes is the same as winning it in one. He is truly amazing in his lack of clarity for the game.

by news727 Estimated endtime of Arthur Ashe match between Zverev and Tabilo is 1:30am ET.

If each player takes a set after two, 2:26am record would be in serious jeopardy.

We set a new duration record for this year's USO earlier today, with Altmaier defeating Medjedovic 7-5, 6(3)-7, 7(9)-6, 6(5)-7, 6-4. The match started at 3:40pm and concluded at 8:26pm. Had this been on either Ashe or Armstrong, the overnight session will not start until 9:30pm!

by jazzyg That Gauff-Tomljanovic match was one of the best matches of the year.

People are reading far too much into narrative rather than watching each point. They both were hitting hard and deep consistently. The women's game has been unmitigated garbage all year long, but that was highly entertaining.

Absolutely correct. Whoever was scoring the errors was pretty unrelenting--yes, many points landed with the ball outside the lines, but usually after a 15+ shot rally. Both players were blowing the cover of the ball--I've never seen Tomljanovic hit so hard or aggressively before. Coco's serve woes didn't come into play until she served for the match the first time. It held up well, considering she's completely changing her mechanics.

Unless you wrote this early on, we watched two different matches. Also, she broke Tomljanovic's serve 8 times and had 15 break points.

30 UFEs and 12 DFs? Her dfs came at pressure times, when she was servinv for the match, she opened with two. Not a good sign. of course, my comments reflect the fact that i expect better from her!

by patrick Think Gauff had 6 DFs in her last 3 service games
