Bencic Andreescu is fascinating! Last time they met, Bencic had a chance to win but took her foot off the gas...this time, clay..suits Andreescu's game better but her actual experience is limited . I love both of them so I don't care what happens but it will tell me something about where Andreescu is..bencic is pretty much an open book to all of us by now...

Muchova has a good chance against Sakkari..who played a pretty loose/shoddy match in the first round, and anyway melts down when she is about to win...

Frenchman Moutet vs. Nadal in the night match might be kind of 'high voltage'...
Barring injury, Nadal will win the match rather handily - but the loud, very animated French crowd (which sometimes treats the opponents of French players unfairly), in combination with Moutet's volatile character, stands a good chance of creating a very interesting atmosphere.

Petkovic seems to think the point of tennis is to hit everything as wide to the left of the court as possible.

Raducanu won the rather benign 1st set over Sasnovich 6-3...
But Sasnovic has jumped out to a rather quick 4-0 lead in the 2nd.
Raducanu isn't moving much now. Could a Medical Time-Out be far off?

In a battle of lefties, Teichmann is about to close it out vs. Danilovic in straight sets.

Petkovic straightened out her shots and played a much better 2nd set. She even had a set point. Then Azarenka had a match point. They decided to play a tiebreak for that 2nd set... which Azarenka won 7-4

Meanwhile Sasnovich put the 2nd set away easily 6-1. No MTO for Raducanu - but she did leave the court after the set.
Long game at 1-1 at the beginning of the 3rd, but Sasnovich eventually held serve. This may have been the turning point, as Raducanu had some break points there. Sasnovich then broke in the next game, then held easily... Then broke again, and served it out - 6-1.

Kerber over Jacquemot easily in the 1st set 6-1.

That can be said of almost all the tournament. The Jabeur loss was a surprise because she had been playing well, but she was the #6 seed. Mugu can lose to anybody nowadays, and it was so unsurprising that several people called it.
But, just as I write this: Baez is up two breaks on Zverev. Maybe something strange is about to happen.

I'd argue that Jabeur losing R1 was as big of a surprise as one could reasonably expect in the early days. Sakkari losing today would be a surprise as well, albeit a lesser one.

Or Baez beating Zverev. He is totally toying with him.

And indeed out goes Sakkari. Our collective distrust in her ability was well founded after all.

I was not part of that wisdom. I thought she would go much farther than this. As we were talking about surprises, that one is one for me.

Ah, Muchova strikes in two tiebreaks. Not a terrible loss, but still... Muchova might be just as tough of an opponent for Anisimova as Sakkari would have been.

No medical timeout. :) Raducanu tried to fight but was just outclassed today. Sasnovich played beautifully, controlled the last two sets and played with more belief and clarity than Emma. I think you could tell that Emma doesn't have a lot of experience on clay. Not a bad performance at all, given that she won a set and her opponent just outplayed her, but I'm sure she will be glad to be back on grass.

I really like Sasnovich and hope she can keep playing like this. It was pretty, light, free-flowing tennis.
