Yeah and I'm not sure Pegula should get the nod over Keys on clay... maybe for doubles.

Keys is currently in position to be the 4th American for the Olympics - do we think Pegula will be healthy enough to play the Olympics?meganfernandez wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 5:09 pm Yeah and I'm not sure Pegula should get the nod over Keys on clay... maybe for doubles.

Healthy, yes, but not necessarily in form. But it's the Olympics and players usually want to experience it if they have earned a spot. Chances are she'll still be ranked higher than Keys unless Keys makes the final of the French.skatingfan wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 9:13 pmKeys is currently in position to be the 4th American for the Olympics - do we think Pegula will be healthy enough to play the Olympics?meganfernandez wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 5:09 pm Yeah and I'm not sure Pegula should get the nod over Keys on clay... maybe for doubles.
When I said "get the nod," I wasn't sure if the Olympics honors rankings. Do the highest ranked players always get the spots, or does the captain have some discretion?

It's ranking based, unless the player passes - it's not like Davis Cup or Billie Jean Cup.meganfernandez wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 11:27 pm Healthy, yes, but not necessarily in form. I think there are four spots anway so both Keys and Pegula gets to play if they want to.

Re: ATP & WTA rankings
Top 10 doubles players are guaranteed entry as long as they have an eligible partner, and then everyone else is listed by ranking like they would for a regular tournament with a limit of 2 entries per country.

And the era is over indeed. Djokovic will never be #1 again. Probably between Alcaraz and Sinner for the next few years.

Re: ATP & WTA rankings
In retrospect, what a French Open.
End of the Roger/Rafa/Novak era. Rafa most certainly will not be back. Good, reliable players such as Gasquet and Cornet called it over. Thiem was unable to qualify and will also retire. Wawrinka and Murray showed they are no longer able to play nowhere near previous levels, and possibly this was their last RG.
At age 37, a torn meniscus is serious. He certainly will not make it to Wimbledon and he will have to be at full strength before coming back to the hard courts of the N. American circuit.

I think he'll do everything he can to be back for the Olympics - it's the only significant title missing from his resume.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 4:29 pm In retrospect, what a French Open.

True, we probably haven't absorbed the full impact of this year's RG.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 4:29 pm In retrospect, what a French Open.

Re: ATP & WTA rankings
Tsitsipas has once again gotten the short end of the stick, and is out of the top ten again this year.
