I don't think Zverev will retire. But he may lost faith. He'll be on tour, but the level of his effort might degrade. Not a big fan of his, but I don't like when something like this happen to anybody.

And Cori Gauff finds herself in a third set TB vs Uchijima.

Gauff barely escapes Uchijima in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4)

And yes the court is slow.

And VDZ pulls off the upset. So far, these big tournaments are dealing up some weird results this year, although it has to be said that there has been a significant dropoff in the quality of Novak's play.

Not so weird if one considers the court and conditions in general

It's pretty weird for Novak to lose to a lucky loser in R2 of a 1000 event no matter what the surface. And it hasn't just been here--the results in the Middle East tournaments were pretty weird too.

Did anyone else see the Navarro/Cirstea match late last night? It was another barnburner finish. Cirstea served for the match at 5-4 and was up 40-0. She lost 8 points in a row (Navarro did a good job of taking most of those points) and 2 games. Cirstea manage to hold at 5-6 forcing a tiebreak, but Navarro prevailed. The late crowd got its money's worth, for sure.

It started after midnight here and I watched a bit (since it was my SP pick) but couldn't stay awake to finish it.
