I have a hard time caring about the conflicts of interest of colour commentators. Maybe because of my fandom of the incestuous figure skating, but I just can't bring myself to care if the commentator has a professional relationship with a player.

Same, at least for on-court interviewers. In the booth, it’s a little icky. They have a rooting interest and I don’t know if I’m getting a fair story about the opponent.skatingfan wrote:I have a hard time caring about the conflicts of interest of colour commentators. About Muchova/Cirstea opening set, that may be one of the closest bagel sets I've ever seen.

Yes. A 6-0 set that lasted 43 minutes. And one game that was 17 minutes long.
Too bad for Sorana, because I really like her, but maybe she can build on this.

What are the commentators doing ON THE COURT between matches? Or is that just a green screen background that I'm not picking up on?

No, they actually are on the court, with 3-4 lighting guys / cameramen in front of them. Get out of the way so they can play tennis.

Glad they spun at the end so I could see how they made Chris stand on a box during it

I need Brad to stop mentioning the "shape of shots". So far, Tiafoe is flat, Shelton is having the good time he's been having at the Open. Now if we can get a final between a couple 20 year olds..... Would that be the first time in 20+ years someone named Nadal, Federer, or Djokovic wasn't in a GS final?

I haven't really checked but there was that Thiem vs Zverev final in the 2020 US Open.Owendonovan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 2:06 am I need Brad to stop mentioning the "shape of shots". Those are the 3 finals since Safin def Hewitt in the 2005 Australian Open final to include none of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.

I didn't expect Tiafoe to defend the semifinals from last year, but I didn't expect Shelton to be the person to deny him the spot.

Re: '23 USO Day 9 OoP & Discussion
And yet Patrick McEnroe kept saying how Muchova blazed through the first set. hah! A 17 minute game is blazing? A 43 minute set is blazing? Someone needs to buy him a watch! And he said it 3 or 4 times?! I was shouting shut up to my tv.
